Toroidal Lasing Spaser
Toroidal shapes are often found in bio-molecules, viruses, proteins and fats, but only recently it was proved experimentally that toroidal structures can support exotic high-frequency electromagnetic excitations that are neither electric or magnetic multipoles. Such excitations, known as toroidal moments, could be playing an important role in enhancing inter-molecular interaction and energy tra...
متن کاملTowards the lasing spaser: controlling metamaterial optical response with semiconductor quantum dots.
We report the first experimental demonstration of compensating Joule losses in metallic photonic metamaterial using optically pumped PbS semiconductor quantum dots.
متن کاملForced Spaser Oscillations
We study oscillations of a spaser driven by an external optical wave. When the frequency of the external field is shifted from the frequency of an autonomous spaser, the spaser exhibits stochastic oscillations at low field intensity. The plasmon oscillations lock to the frequency of the external field only when the field amplitude exceeds a threshold value. We find a region of external field am...
متن کاملMagneto-optical spaser.
We present an electrodynamical model of a quantum plasmonic device--the magneto-optical (MO) spaser. It is shown that a spherical gain nanoparticle coated with a metallic MO shell can operate as a spaser amplifying circularly polarized surface plasmons. The MO spaser may be used in design of an optical isolator in plasmonic transmission lines as well as in spaser spectrometry of chiral molecules.
متن کاملSpaser, Plasmonic Amplification, and Loss Compensation
A review of quantum and gain nanoplasmonics is given. This includes spaser and plasmonic gain, amplification, and loss compensation. This Chapter reviews both fundamental theoretical ideas in quantum and gain nanoplasmonics and selected experimental developments. It is designed both for specialists in the field and general physics readership.
